Algeria Climate

A glance at temperature and rainfall charts for the entire country of Algeria would be misleading. The large area covered by the Sahara Desert skews the data toward a hotter, drier climate than one experiences in Algiers, where most foreign businesspeople live.

Average temperatures in Algiers, with its northern location on the coast of the Mediterranean, keep to a fairly temperate range of 10°C/50°F to 30°C/86°F. Summers are humid and winters are damp but mild.

By comparison, the Sahara is arid and extremely hot (average highs of 41°C/105°F in some areas), although nighttime can be cold.

Dry spells can lead to the danger of sand storms, which can be a problem when driving inland. Coastal regions and some mountains are humid and subject to storms that can cause mudslides.
